WOMAN-OWNED, WOMAN-CENTERED

Who We Are

Whole Woman’s Health (WWH) is a privately owned, feminist healthcare company committed to providing fabulous abortion care for all who need it. Whole Woman’s Health was founded in 2003 by Amy Hagstrom Miller, who saw a need in our communities for a more holistic model of care. “Abortion and other reproductive decisions are not simply medical matters,” says Hagstrom Miller. “When a person makes a decision about pregnancy and their body, this person undergoes an intense evaluation of beliefs, identity, goals, and dreams for the future.”

Whole Woman’s Health offers fabulous reproductive care, including abortion for all people. We provide an unparalleled patient-centered setting where the focus is always on the patient—body, heart, and mind.”

What We Do

Whole Woman’s Health manages clinics providing comprehensive gynecology services, including abortion care. It is our philosophy that everyone must be at the center of their own healthcare decisions and that treating people holistically — honoring head, heart, and body — will better serve and improve the health and happiness of our communities. We know that doing abortion care work in the USA not only involves our healthcare expertise, but it also involves deep skills in advocacy, communications, litigation, community partnerships and policy. WWH has developed mad skills in all these arenas during our 20 years in business, and we are uniquely poised to navigate challenges and leverage our expertise to keep high-quality clinics open and of service to communities across the country for decades to come.

Since its founding in Austin, Texas in 2003, Whole Woman’s Health has grown to be the leader in operations and management of independent abortion clinics in the US. In our first 20 years, WWH led 16 clinic acquisitions, 3 mergers, 9 start-ups and 17 lawsuits – with two of those cases ending up in the Supreme Court of the United States. We see more than 30,000 patients a year for reproductive healthcare and currently manage 5 clinics in 4 states, as well as abortion pills by mail programs in 5 states. Because of the volatile landscape for abortion care provision in the US – especially in the Midwest and the South where we have focused our work – Whole Woman’s Health has also built expertise in closing clinics and winding down practices; we have managed at least 10 clinic closures to date with 6 of these closures directly resulting from the overturn of Roe V Wade in 2022. Whole Woman’s Health also provides management services to Whole Woman’s Health Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization that is extremely active in advocacy, training, and education in the communities we serve. Our headquarters is in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The clinics managed by Whole Woman’s Health are run by an outstanding, innovative, forward thinking, and diverse leadership team. This team has expertise in medicine, operations, finance, communications, marketing, negotiation, risk management, quality assurance regulatory compliance, advocacy, and legislation. The teams in the clinics we manage include Board Certified and licensed physicians, nurses, counselors, medical assistants, and patient advocates. All our facilities are accredited by the National Abortion Federation and are members of the Abortion Care Network. We are proud to be a woman-owned, woman-centered, progressive business.

We are committed to destigmatizing abortion and creating safe spaces for all people, whether it’s in our clinics or in the communities where we live and work. As such, we have created an Abortion 101 Program for advocates, activists, community partners, state legislators, media, and medical professionals. This workshop can be given at any Whole Woman’s Health or Whole Woman’s Health Alliance site throughout the country, as well as arranged at partner locations. This program provides a way to learn about what someone would experience when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. By deconstructing the nuanced conflicts, emotions, language, and conversations surrounding abortion, we support the growth of people’s empathy and help shift the way that people talk about abortion in our country.
